QR codes take flight…in more ways than one!

Jet Airways take flight with new QR code campaign

Jet Airways, a major international airline, is now providing QR codes as a new and innovative way to keep their customers up to date with company services and procedures. It is among the first airline to implement this type of mobile marketing technology and has already put the codes to use on their website and Facebook posts. Plans are in the works to place the codes in their in-flight magazine, JetWings, later next month, allowing passengers to look up information on the various advertisements within its pages.

“In the second phase, Jet Airways plans to include the quick response barcodes on their eTickets as well,” a Jet spokesperson said.

The airline has been working with 3GVision, a leader in mobile barcode reading marketing, allowing them access to its QR code campaign management system to provide Jet with the ability to report real-time information to passengers.

Already well established in its country of birth, Japan, the QR code has seen a dynamic rise in popularity in the western world last year. More businesses are adopting this brand of mobile technology to stay on the cutting edge of their industry. With more mobile devices finding their way into the hands of consumers, QR may well become a part of everyday life for consumers.

“Quick Response barcodes provide an effective and responsive platform to facilitate a high level of engagement with our guests,” says CCO of JetAirways, Sudheer Raghavan.

The advent of this technology is providing a new competitive field for advertisers. With a wealth of information just a scan away, marketing looks as though it may have to get more creative to meet the needs of the consumer – if only to encourage them to scan the code in the first place.
